In The Name is latest exhibition from West Australian artist, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah and will launch at Alaska Projects gallery space in Elizabeth Bay on April 8 until April 26.
A former student of the Victorian College of the Arts then Curtin University, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah graduated in 2012.
The following year he was a finalist in the Blake and Substation Prizes was the West Australian recipient of the Qantas Foundation Encouragement of Australian Contemporary Art Award.
His work is held in the collections of Islamic Museum of Australia, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Murdoch University and Artbank.
Abdul-Rahman Abdullah’s latest exhibition, In The Name is primarily a reflexive journey of memory that explores what it was like to grow up as a Muslim Australian.
Using sculpture as the medium, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah touches on topics as diverse – yet as integral to the construction of personal identity – as childhood, death and dinner.
The installation takes a specific peak at the private practice of halal in suburban settings, due to a lack of certified meat available in local Australian markets.
In the Name will show at Alaska Projects, Elizabeth Bay, from April 8 until April 26. Opening night is on the 8th.
