Ok, we admit it. We have a ‘thing’ for nice homewares. We would much rather get a good night’s sleep and wake up fresh and rested to prepare for a day of shopping for new jugs, cups and plates. But do you really blame us when there are designers like Shelley Simpson, the mistress of Mud, who continue to make ever-nicer things that we simply have to have!
With their studio in Marrickville and their concept store in Edgecliff, Mud porcelains are all handmade and finished right here in Sydney. Their collections range from the muted, refrained palette to the vibrant show-stoppers that we here at QT have our eyes on. A technique used in the final glaze process leaves the exterior with a vitrified stone-like surface that becomes smooth with ongoing handling and use. The workshop also allows a mixture of both amateur and master ceramicists to work together, which means that each collection is unique to its maker and their peculiarities.
All Mud goods are microwavable (if you must), oven-able, refrigerator-able and dishwasher safe and made to last a lifetime. A perfect gift for the perpetual dinner host! Or just as a gift to us if any of you are feeling a little generous…
