Tonight QT Sydney played host to a section of red carpet that was walked by some serious heavy hitters in the Australian arts and cultural industries. Out in force to celebrate the World Premiere of The Water Diviner, an epic tale of how far a father will go to lay his fallen sons to rest after the ravages of WW1.
Throngs of excited onlookers waited at the barricades right across from the QT Sydney doorstep to catch glimpses of their favourite stars, and there is no bigger Australian cinematic powerhouse than Russell Crowe. Mirroring his directorial debut’s strong patriarchal themes Russell walked the red carpet on this way to The State Theatre with his own two boys who were perfect little gentlemen in bespoke tuxedos. He was very tactile with his boys, touching their faces lovingly and taking time to answer their questions giving him their undivided attention. The Oscar-winning actor also stars in The Water Diviner as the protagonist, Joshua Connor, an Australian farmer still grieving the loss of his three sons in the great war.
Jai Courtney, an absolute stand out on the red carpet both for his obvious Hollywood good looks and his dapper attire has all the making of a star on the rise with a strong performance in the movie. He passionately praised his Director on the carpet and gave a lot of time to both the public and media vying for his attention. Definitely one to watch!
Olga Kurylenko, who stars in the film as a Turkish widow who forms a deep friendship with the determined farmer searching for his sons was a vision is a pale green silk evening gown. A laid back ponytail (the style du jour of the red carpet glamazon) and minimal makeup amplified her etherial beauty and she showed poise and grace when walking the barrier to make sure that the fans got their all important selfies with her (the new red carpet autograph).
Megan Gale, who has a support role in the film, was resplendent in a black mini dress again proving to the paparazzi why she is one of the most highly sought after models in the European modelling scene. Her megawatt smile had the crowd cheering uproariously and she was clearly comfortable mingling with them.
Red carpet regulars were also out in fine form, notably Kerrie Anne Kennerley who seems to be ageing backwards! She glided down the ruby rug in a gorgeous neon pink mini and looked every bit the young starlet. She was another stand out in terms of fan engagement which is part of the reason why she is such an adored character in the Australian entertainment landscape.
The premiere itself, held at The State Theatre is sure to be one of the standout moments in both the Sydney social scene for 2015, and also (by the whispers we overheard from those leaving the theatre after the films completion) may have played host to one of the best cinematic releases to hit the Australian screens in recent memory. We won’t tell you who said, but lets just say they are a person well and truly on trend and in the know!
Stay tuned for more insider information in our next post – The Water Diviner afterparty.
