spaQIn the warm glow that QT Sydney feels after our high-fashion and high-fun partnership with the 2o14 instalment of the Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, we asked the divine songstress Lanie Lane, who performed on the evening in front of the fashionistas at Hyde Park at the official event launch, what she loves about fashion and how she came to be at the forefront of the modern woman’s fashion movement.
When I got the call being asked to participate in the annual Vogue Fashion Night Out this year in Sydney, I was delighted to be involved. Plus, I got to stay at my favourite QT hotel, how could i say no?! The event brings together all modes of fashion and all kinds of people, many thousands of them in fact, swarming the city streets in search of the perfect look. Possibly the only downfall of the night was the massive downfalls of rain, but even the weather didn’t keep the masses (umbrellas in hand) away from this once-a-year fashion extravaganza!
Being a part of this years VFNO was a great way to immerse myself in the world of fashion after a two year sabbatical from the outer world. Exploring new looks with the Vogue team during the week leading up to the event was definitely a treat for me! I am feeling more truly feminine than ever before in my life and was able to wear some gorgeous outfits for my performances which expressed this. Opening the event in Hyde Park and performing later at the David Jones Great Hall were my first live performances in over a year. To have the opportunity to play my first single ‘Celeste’ live for the first time outside in beautiful Hyde park was a lovely way to get started up again.
I have gone though a major personal shift over the last few years and as always, the outer life is a manifestation of the inner. For me being a musician, of course my first port-of-call is to creatively channel these experiences into song and music (of which a beautiful and very different sounding record for me has now been completed!). Now that the recording process is finished, I find I have the creative juice and desire to to play with new looks and new ways to express myself through fashion again- informed by these personal changes and the new music I have made. So.. good timing Vogue!
My fashion ‘icons’ may be unlikely hero’s but for me they are always true artists with their personal style being an extension of their art, core beliefs and values. Women like Frida Kahlo and Vali Myers who wore their art on their backs and on their skin. This is what truly inspires me. Anyone willing to be completely themselves no matter what the trends of the time dictate and without fear of being different. These days we have access to so many styles and areas of fashion. We can pick what works for us as individuals, mixing, matching and changing styles as we evolve as humans. I know the best fashion designers will always find great inspiration from the natural world and artists of all kinds, choosing to bring beauty into the world through the medium of fashion, just as I use the medium of music. It’s really just one massive collaboration in action.
Long live ART.Well, isn’t she just the most gorgeous woman out? This talented soul has a new album titled ‘Night Shade’ ready to soothe your inner self, watch the video for the brand new single ‘Celeste’ here, then make sure to pre-order ‘Night Shade’ here (due for release October 24).
