Twenty Artists Unite in an Exhibition to support the Climate Council

Feb 2, 2014  ·  3 min read

SARK STUDIO PRESENTS ‘THE HUMAN ENVIRONMENT’

Next month, clothing label Sark Studio will hold a unique exhibition and auction to raise funds for the Climate Council. ‘The Human Environment’ will comprise a photograph by each of twenty renowned artists from different creative disciplines including photographers, musicians, artists, designers, cinematographers and architects.

Curated by the team at The Glue Society, the exhibition will include works by Tamara Dean, Paul Blackmore, Ingvar Kenne, Derek Henderson, Chris Bosse, Chris Round, Toby Burrows, Andreas Smetana, Paul McDermott, Anne Ferran, Luke Steele, Victoria Alexander, Val Garland, Richard Bullock, Ari Wegner, Richard Allan, Lorin Askill & Anna Pogossova.

Each contributor has been asked to create an exciting and inspiring single photographic artwork using a Sark Studio shirt. The image represents their interpretation of the core theme, The Human Environment. The resulting works are personal, diverse and provocative.

The works will be available for auction on the night to raise funds for the Climate Council. Following the Australian Government’s decision to remove funding for research into climate and the environment, the Climate Council has now set itself up as a privately funded (independent and apolitical) non-profit organization. “We have been blown away by the generosity and it is great to see people putting on events to support the Climate Council. It is an important way to help ensure Australians receive accurate and independent information about climate change,” says Amanda McKenzie, CEO of the Climate

Council.

Sark Studio, as a designer and producer of high quality, handcrafted garments, has always had a strong focus on business ethics and philosophy. There is a strict emphasis on minimal waste within the company with small locally made production runs.

Sark Studio felt the need to help address the climate change issues facing Australia in a meaningful and provocative way through raising funds and awareness for this vital environmental organization. Designer Theresa Jackson says: “Climate change is the most serious threat facing us all. The current trend towards cheap, disposable clothing is just one part of a more serious issue that we all have to address”

‘The Human Environment’ will see some of Australia’s top creative forces join together in support of a truly worthy cause. Not only is the world of fashion changing, so too is the real world we live in. It’s time we did something about it!

If you would like to attend the exhibition on Tuesday February 18, please email [email protected].
