THE STIFFYS

Feb 20, 2014  ·  2 min read

By Benjamen Judd

When we were in high school the term stiffy was used to describe something that happened to guys. It was kind of awkward and despite the fact that it happened to all of them they would give each other serious grief about it in front of their mates.

Melbourne-based band The Stiffys, on the other hand, are far from awkward and while the self-referential band name is definitely a hint at their musical direction they’re adamant that they’re not just a novelty band. In their own words, they’re just trying to express themselves with their own unique brand of rock and roll. And you are going to be able to see them perform this live at Frankie’s Pizza on Hunter Street just around the corner on Thursday, March 13.

Dubbed as the band to watch out for in 2013, The Stiffys consist of Jason Leigh (bass) and Adam Stagg (drums) who created the band from their share house to play a once-off show at a warehouse party.

They recorded their debut 13 minute album in one take from the same warehouse and found themselves on a sold out national tour not long after.

The eccentric pair have been described as ‘like Death From Above 1979 on the beach’ and a ‘must see live act’.
