The Ashes 2013

Australia’s battle with England for ‘The Ashes’ is the pinnacle of international cricket. It has become the sport’s most passionately contested event, and the small fragile urn remains its greatest treasure.

Players have become national heroes as they performed remarkable feats in a bid to claim supremacy in this most celebrated of rivalries. Their names evoke their deeds, teams and even whole ages in cricketing history: Bannerman, Grace, Noble, Trumper, Hobbs, Larwood, O’Reilly, Bradman, Benaud, Cowdrey, Lillee, Gower, Taylor, Waugh, Vaughan and Flintoff.

The contest on the field is only half the story. Spectator passion keeps the Ashes story a living landscape. Great moments inspire great dreams – many a young player has aspired to wear the baggy green in an Ashes Test.
