Paper is one those odd materials that we seem to take for granted. We use it everyday to scribble down some hurried notes; doodle on at our desks when we should be finishing those spreadsheets and scrunch it up in a fit of rage when that last paragraph doesn’t work (maybe that’s just me). But for some, paper is the medium that they use to create some of the most wonderful works of art and designs we have seen in a long time.
Sydney-based designer, Benja Harney, is one such visionary. Self-taught with a background in graphic design, Benja has been busy creating a paper empire within the design world, including exclusive windows for the Sydney Hermes concept store, his own exhibition at Object Gallery and even a collector pop-up book designed as part of Kylie Minogue’s “Aphrodite: Les Folies” tour.
Benja prides himself on meticulous attention to detail, something that would definitely be required considering the fragility of the material he deals with. Add to this an endless amount of creativity, natural flair, a touch of dandy showmanship and you have one of the most exciting artists in Sydney today.
Benja’s works can be seen here.
