So we have a secret love affair with auctions. We guess it can be related to that buzz some people get from gambling on horses or dogs, especially when you consider how the underlying financial risk/thrill that occurs during the event. And one of our favourite places to get our antique-and-art adrenalin kicks is at the Vickers and Hoad showrooms in Waterloo.
Dedicated to showcasing only the finest art and collectables, Vickers and Hoad’s monthly auctions are more like a curated exhibition of design. Some of the items that you are likely to be able to get your manicured hands on include Japanese scrolls, rare maps and early engravings, antique carpets, Irish and French furniture, 18th and 19th century Louis XV & XVI arm chairs and everything else that you can think of that you would simply murder to have sitting in your gracious drawing room.
Auctions are held monthly, held across Saturday and Sunday and the catalogue is posted online on the Wednesday prior so those interested can get their hoisting (and credit) cards on the ready. For those who are particularly keen, there is also the Director’s Selection which constitutes those items that are particularly rare or of unusual background.
For more information, and to download the catalogue and check the next auction dates, head to the Vickers and Hoad website here.
