TAKE ME OUT

Nov 6, 2013  ·  2 min read

By Benjamen Judd

So Franz Ferdinand are coming back to Sydney town and we’re getting flashbacks to 2004. It was a pretty good year. We’re not even all that ashamed of the fashion choices we were making back then and we’ve been known to make some shockers.

Celebrating the release of their fourth studio album, Right Thoughts Right Words Right Actions, the boys from Glasgow have announced a world-wide tour and one of the pit stops down south will include a night at the Metro Theatre, November 15.

Now, this album has apparently been in the works since 2010 when the boys went all hermit style on us and bunkered down in some Scottish barn to write some new tunes. During this period, the lads toured intermittently across Britain and Europe, testing out material and even trying on a whole new sound.

Lead singer Alex Kapranos has said that the album deals with “the idea of the cynic’s search for optimism and the sceptic’s search for a manual crop up here and there. I’ve always liked the lead character in Alasdair Gray’s Lanark growing the hard scales to defend the soft inner-self from the world. Socially awkward asthmatic with a self-consuming imagination. My 19-year-old self was electrified. Maybe the album is about how to shed those scales.”

To get your tickets to see the glorious return of Franz Ferdinand at the Metro Theatre, head to here.
