There has always been a level of antagonism between Sydney and Melbourne over who has had the best street-level arts scene. We’ll just come out and say it – Sydney does. No no no, they’re both as good as each other (no, really, Sydney is the best).
This Saturday coming Saturday, 23rd March, as part of art month, the City of Sydney are providing guided tours around our hood so people can experience some of the commissioned street art we have going on. All this whilst taking in cocktails at various hot spots along the way.
These tours are a great way to explore some of the cities more colourful areas like Darlinghurst, Surry Hills and Chinatown on foot, and to meet the artists behind the works. Did we mention cocktails? Featured artworks include Reko Rennie’s spectacular neon façade Always Was, Always Will Be in Taylor Square, Jason Wing’s ethereal In Between Two Worlds in Chinatown’s Kimber Lane and brand-new street artworks in Foley Street Darlinghurst.
These tours are a terrific chance to meet with fellow art lovers, hear the stories behind these much-loved works and to get to know the artists who have brought them to life. Places are limited and cocktails/mocktails $10 each.
For more information and to book, visit the City of Sydney website here.
