Is there any better time of year than Christmas? The weather is warm, the beaches are full of happy bodies and the shopping becomes an almost nirvana-level sensory overload. One of the best parts, however, is the annual display of festivities that transforms the city into a huge playground of sights and sounds, starting with the annual Lighting of the Tree in Martin place on Thursday, November 27.
The interactive Christmas Tree is a highlight of the season. Positioned in the heart of Sydney at Martin Place, providing a visual spectacle that enables people to share the spirit by sending text messages up its branches. The latest innovation for 2014 is a fun touch pad kiosk that helps the public to interact and control the colour settings of the LED tree decorations.
Accompanying the Tree will be the Street Light Disco, which will transform the promenade of Martin Place into a glowing city of light. The shimmering banners will reflect the plaza’s historic architecture while emitting a mirror ball-effect, captivating visitors with sparkle and light. Developed through Art & About Sydney, Street Light Disco is a joint initiative between City of Sydney and Office Feuerman, a design practice based in Sydney and New York. Pitt Street Mall will also be partaking with a floating light display.
Sydney Christmas 2014 will officially launch on November 27 at Martin Place and will be held across the city until December 25.
