Cate Blanchett – she of the Elven ears and once Queen of England will be performing in Jean Genet’s, The Maids, from the 4th of June to the 20th July. She will be joined by one of our other favourite stars, the French siren Isabelle Huppert (Google her, you will thank us for it).
The Maids tells the story of the Papin sisters, two maids who were convicted of killing their employer. Genet’s version of the tale depicts a series of sadomasochistic rituals in which housemaids Solange and Claire fantasise about killing their madame while – naturally – dressing up in her outfits. Murder, lunacy, and fashion – it’s like your average day in the QT offices, just with more Cate Blanchett. Maybe she would be interested in spending a day or week with us here when the show is done…
The play is based on a new translation by Benedict Andrews and Andrew Upton. Andrews has recently returned from an acclaimed tour of Europe for his show, Gross und Klein (Big and Small).
