When we hunt down new designers, we like to have a little look at their background stories. Like, did they start their brand at a local market or did they do the design school break-out approach. When we came across Sydney-based label Stylestalker, we not only fell in love with the brand but also completely related to the very reason they started it all – stalking stylish people.
Not in a creepy way, of course, but in a completely admiration based need-to-know basis of where they got their shoes from, what is that skirt made out of and where did those jeans originate. Sue-Ann San and Rachel Zeilic started the label together back in 2008 with no formal training whatsoever in the fashion industry other than a healthy obsession with beautiful clothing that didn’t cost the earth.
Inspiration for the label comes from women with cult-status style like Chloe Sevigny, Sienna Miller and even the Olsen Twins but also from old movies and vintage magazines. The brand has become an international hit too, already getting a notable mention in British Vogue and now being sold in over 100 online stores worldwide.
Their latest collection shows the full extent of their creative mutability, ranging from delicate lace cocktail dresses to studded leather biker chick skirts. Office favourite of the moment? The black Coco Dress. The leather collar is a decadent detail to a fun re-thinking of the traditional cocktail dress.
