Winter is coming so of course we are thinking about going out and buying a stack of new things to make our homes more winter-y. Cushions, rugs. Some bags and things. Just loads of colourful stuff. And probably from Melbourne-based label Shakiraaz.

Shakiraaz was created by Melbourne based, Indian born textile and graphic designer, Shakira Lima. The label was launched by Shakira to create homewares that were eco-friendly and sustainable and was started with a range of hand painted, detailed botanicals as cushions a few years ago. Some years on, some more cushions and a growing cult fan base, Shakiraaz now includes beautiful textiles and products, designed by Shakira in her Melbourne studio or sourced directly from artisans in her homeland of India, in turn helping them sustain a livelihood.

The label has grown to include hand-made, beautifully coloured jewellery boxes; stationary and mobiles; and a full range of brightly coloured, hand-woven dining accessories.

What has recently been released is a range of vintage kanthas – hand wover Indian throws. These are perfect for making sure that the winter is not only warm and snug but also so brightly coloured that you’ll be your own private tropical island.
