So, in case you have missed it, the inimitable Lauryn Hill has just been confirmed to perform at the annual art, light and music fiesta that is Sydney’s Vivid LIVE in May. Why are we getting in so early? Because this is the sort of event that sells out quicker than you can say “why didn’t you tell me earlier!” Consider yourself warned…

Since it’s beginnings in 2009, Vivid LIVE has confirmed itself as one of the major highlights in the Sydney event calendar. Noted for it’s unique curation each year, the event combines a mixture of performance, art, urban design and technology that culminates in the Lighting of the Sails where the entirety of Circular Quay including the Sydney Opera House becomes one huge interactive installation artwork.

This year, Vivid LIVE has commissioned award-winning international artists 59 Productions to create a new projected artwork for the sails of the Sydney Opera House, Vivid LIVE’s most public event. Lauded for developing ‘the most sophisticated use of film in the theatre to date’ (Metro) and creating ‘an entirely new art form’ (The Guardian), 59 Productions will now take the iconic building on a dramatic journey through time – from the birth of architecture and civilization through to the pinnacle of human and technological achievement. And that’s just the art!

Musically, the event has never sounded better – the Lauryn Hill, the Pixies, St. Vincent, Astral People, Siberian Nights and a live performances of The Avalanches headed by the fantastic Jonti…seriously, the other festivals are going to have to pick up their game if they think they can compete with this!
