Our favourite folk music makers from the Mountains are back! That’s right, Cloud Control have announced a fresh batch of tours that will see them making their particular kind of magic in a number of Sydney venues.
The tour comes after a blazing finish to 2013 which saw the release of their latest studio album, Dream Caves. An instant hit that even saw them tour North America at the beginning of this year, Dream Cave is a surprisingly accessibly despite being incredibly haunting collection of synth-pop tracks. Personally, for us, half the love comes from the album’s inspiration – a cave in the English countryside was where Cloud Control put the dreamy title track to tape. It’s a strange and wonderful audio journey with memorable songwriting, soaring hooks and expansive instrumentation.
It’s also an exercise in introspection that sees vocalist Alister Wright dissecting his darker side – “I could beat myself down/ You don’t need to bother”, he sings on hymnal lead single ‘Dojo Rising’.
This latest tour kicks off at one of our own favourite stomping grounds (aside from our very own Gilt Lounge of course) the Coogee Bay Hotel on Friday, 4 April after which is a whirlwind of back to back performances at the Newport Arms, Bondi Pavillion, Opera Bar at Circular Quay all the way down to Towradgi Hotel in Wollongong. It’ll be a true test of fandom to see who can make it to every show…and yes, we are daring you.
