If there is a nation of peoples that know how to have a good time it’s the green wearin’, Guinness drinkin’, leprechaun lovin’ Irish. And we are happy to give you the low down for their biggest event of the year – Saint Patrick’s Day.
Regardless of the many other valid meanings behind Saint Patrick’s Day is, for most of us it happens to be one of the merriest events on the Western calendar and for those ex-pats and descendants living in Sydney this includes a huge parade down our very own George Street. And obviously one or two obligatory alcohol-laced beverages to wind down the evening.
Being held on this Sunday 16 March, the Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade provides the NSW community with a vibrant, colourful event which showcases the cultural richness of all things Irish and Irish Australian. The parade will have a variety of floats that touch on Irish culture including mythology and folklore, traditional and political history and the role of the Irish in creating Australia.
After the parade we recommend coming back here to the QT to sit down to some traditional Irish recreational activities like taking a load of with a cold, refreshing beer.
The Saint Patrick’s Parade will run along George Street on Sunday, 16 March.
