Good design can give us the shivers in a way that not even horror movies and a lifetime supply of chocolate can. And Melbourne-based design studio, Coco Flip, is basically making us shake like Quakers.
A multidisciplinary studio established by Kate Stokes in 2010, Coco Flip undertakes projects within the creative fields of furniture, interior, and graphic design. Taking its philosophy from the Swedish word ‘lagom’, translating roughly to ‘not too much, and not too little’, Coco Flip’s approach to design balances a largely conceptual evolution of ideas, with a more pragmatic and technical approach, strongly influenced by materiality and design process.
Coco Flip endeavours to create products and experiences that provoke thought and conversation, engaging its audiences and encouraging an escape from the every day.
And while there is plethora of things that we want to buy from Coco (we literally want all of the things) our personal favourite is the Puku Ottoman. Puku is the affectionate Maori word for a chubby belly. Taking cues from Japanese cartoon characters such as Totoro, these ottomans make a bright, kooky addition to any room. Made in Melbourne, Australia, Puku is upholstered in the finest Kvadrat fabrics from Denmark. Choose from a range of vibrant colours for the top, and a selection of mottled greys for the bottom.
For more information on Coco Flip, head to the website here. Or, head down to Workshopped at Shop 2, 8 Hill Street in Surry Hills to have a look at their catalogue in store.
