Paul Kelly is one of the true Aussie musicians. After recorded nineteen studio albums as well as several film soundtracks (Lantana and the Cannes 2006 highlight, Jindabyne) and two live albums, his influential career has spanned more than thirty years, eventually being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1997.
A unique mix of rock, folk and soul, Paul Kelly is now bringing his raw and touching brand of music to The Civic Centre. Touring with Urthboy, Kelly will be playing the music from his latest studio album, Spring and Fall. Dubbed as an album of simplicity and beauty, the lead single, “New Found Year”, was a digital download only release that was made available in October last year, ahead of the album release. One of the other key tracks, “New Found Year”, is a love song that borrows words from 16th Century English poet, John Donne’s “To His Mistress Going to Bed”.
Kelly’s decision to tour with Urthboy is an intriguing one and will definitely bring a new edge to the concerts. The hip hop artist is a perfect contrast to the folk of Kelly, both unassailably talented and with much in common amongst their musical themes that, with several generations difference underpinning the sound of their work, show the myriad of levels that is Australia.
Paul Kelly and Urthboy will play at the Civic Centre on July 23. To get your tickets to Paul Kelly and Urthboy, head to their website here.
