MCA Art Bar

Mar 21, 2013  ·  2 min read

By Benjamen Judd

We’ve mentioned the MCA Art Bar events previously, and for good reason – they is damned good. And the one coming up this Friday 22nd March, ‘Into the Aether’, is no exception (may even be the best yet…who can say).

This Saturday’s theme is astronomical; cosmic; astral; out of this world…can you see where we are going with this? There’ll be telescopes on the roof, constellations of live ballerinas, rock carvings, and modern-day whirling dervishes singing into the night. Join Kate Mitchell in her adventures down the rabbit hole, or follow Ray Norris out into the cosmos and discover the art and science of Indigenous Astronomy.

Joining him will be a gaggle? a gathering? a coven? of CSIRO scientists to help align the scopes. Musically, expect to be awed by the microtonal musings of Amanda Cole or the infinite sonic spiralling of Tim Bruniges, and join Hossein Ghaemi and his troupe as they venture their way through the museum.

If that’s not enough, Joshua Tyler will scan your mind, while Camille Serisier will send you into outer space. Joyce Hinterding will be tuning in to the universe as Elizabeth Reidy’s ethereal ballerinas pluck constellations from the sky.

Yeah – expect to walk away expanded. Or enlightened. Or maybe both.

To buy tickets to ‘Into the Aether’, head to the MCA website here. The MCA is located at 140 George Street, Sydney (down in the Rocks).
