If you’ve not done so already, now could be your last chance to see the astounding exhibition of contemporary Indigenous art, Martu Art From the Far Western Desert, at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA).
Wrapping up on November 30, Martu Art From the Far Western Desert is a selection of collaborative paintings by 29 Martu artists of their Ngurra (Country), a vast area of the Great Sandy, Little Sandy and Gibson Deserts in Western Australia. Depicting in intricate detail the desert landscape and its stories, the artworks illustrate the Martu people’s intimate knowledge of the region.
The vibrant paintings are the work of social and collaborative processes involving older and younger artists from the community. This was done through the sharing of stories, talking, singing, remembering and education, ensuring that Martu history and culture can be passed on to future generations.
Mart Art From the Far Western Desert is now on show at the MCA until November 30. Admission is free.
