The Wainright’s are the kind of family you wish you were born in to. Folk-legend parents, a brother dubbed the enfant terrible of the Canadian music scene, and a sister who with more vocal witchery than Stevie Nicks. They’re like the Von Trapps but with an injection of high voltage whiskey and coffee in equal measures.
On the heels of her brother, Martha Wainwright has confirmed that she will be returning to Australia to launch her latest album, Come Home to Martha, and will be performing at The Concert Hall in the Sydney Opera House on June 6.
Come Home to Martha continues the deeply personal approach Martha takes to her music, and is inspired by the six-month period during which she gave birth to her first child and lost her mother — legendary Canadian folk singer Kate McGarrigle — to cancer.
About the album, Wainwright states that “this record is a culmination of my life experiences so far. Everything changed for me a couple of years ago and this record is a representation of that and a return to the reason I started writing songs.”
