If you’re not sure what we mean by the above title…shame on you! Not really. (Yes, really).
The Little Black Jacket has been a staple of the wardrobe for decades, going through multiple incarnations according to seasons and trends. A wider lapel here, a split-back there – the silhouette often changes but the key signature stays the same. And the most renowned, and coveted, Little Black Jacket has always been the one designed by the House of Chanel.
First imagined by the legendary Coco Chanel back in 1954, the Chanel Black Jacket has become THE black jacket must have. Traditionally made using black tweed, the jacket has been worn by the fashionable elite, the famous and the powerful for more than half a century. Chanel herself wore it up until the day she died, becoming her own best advertisement both during life and after death.
All this amazingness and timelessness has been captured in the current exhibition showing in Walsh Bay, The Little Black Jacket. Masterminded by the man himself, Karl Lagerfeld, and styled by the infallible Carine Roitfeld, the exhibition showcases the iconic jacket in a series of 50 black and white portraits, worn by some of the world’s most influential celebrities, models and designers. Alexander Wang, Dakota Fanning, Sarah Jessica Parker, Uma Thurman, Yoko Ono and Theophilus London each capture and help Lagerfeld re-imagine the jacket in new ways.
The Little Black Jacket Exhibition is now showing at Pier 2/3 13 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay.
