Like Being in a Zoo.

It’s funny how often good clothing comes from those people who have no background in fashion. Like graphic designers and awesome life-partners, George Haughton and Bonita Francis. Both George and Bonita came from a background in graphic design before they decided to make some waves in the Melbourne fashion scene. And make waves they have.

In 2010, the duo launched their brand Zoologie, opening up their flagship store on Manchester Lane in the Melbourne CBD. A mix of high-end street-wear, accessories footwear, all Zoologie gear is made locally. There is also a smattering of international designers that have been carefully selected by George and Bonita to reflect that same ethos as their own brand. American labels such as Alexandra Cassaniti shoes and purses, Topo Designs backpacks and Uzi NYC hand printed tops all share the same emphasis on providing locally sourced and locally manufactured garments and supporting their own community.

Houghton and Francis have described their label as a “menagerie of crisp and colourful clothing and design” but we think this could even be a bit of an understatement. Denim and corduroy are often found together creating a nice clash of texture, as well as bright, printed panels and detailing giving even the most standard shirt a nice edge.
