One of those annoying things about parents is that they often listen to music that, whilst you hate it more than crusts on your bread growing up, you tend to love it more than the crust on your bed as an adult.
Blue Oyster Cult is one of those bands that your dad would listen to in the living room, most probably on tape, while your mum told him to turn it down and you screamed you couldn’t hear the cartoons. Revered by punks, metal heads, sci-fi geeks and horror movie fans alike, the Blue Oyster Cult have carved out a 40-year career out of a series of complex hard rock albums and some seriously awesome live performances.
Their best known track ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’, was a U.S. top twenty hit in 1976 (and for those other kids from the 90s, you might recognise this song from its rather passé cover in the Scream movie franchises). The album it came from, ‘Agents Of Fortune’ (featuring a collaboration with songstress Patti Smith) achieved platinum status while their overall catalogue sales are in excess of 24 million.
On Saturday, April 20, the Blue Oyster Cult will be tearing a new one at the Hi-Fi Sydney in Moore Park. This is a sideshow performance as part of their first ever tour of Australia, a tour that came about thanks to the strong efforts of local band, Hoodoo Gurus, to take part in the 2013 Dig It Up! festival. Cheers guys!
