What do a painting randomly picked up from the side of the road and a man named Jono have in common? Hint: they combined in all kinds of love to create an awesome band that is about to perform at the Standard this coming Saturday at the Standard.
Jagwar Ma is a Sydney-based rock band comprised of three lads, Gabriel Winterfield on lead and guitar, Jono Ma (the MA of Jagwar Ma) and Nick Freeman on the bass and keyboards. The Jagwar part literally comes from the gifting of a painting of a jaguar that a buddy found on the side of the road.
Citing influences such as Aphex Twin, The Bumblebeez and the Avalanches, Jagwar Ma are refreshing punch in the face to the Australian music scene. So much so that their debut album, Howlin, has received not only critical praise locally but internationally. Former Oasis co-frontman, Noel Gallagher, has even been heard saying nothing but awesome things about the lads (and considering how much of a wanker loud mouth Noel can be, this is actually some serious praise indeed).
So, to celebrate the success of their debut album and to show of their skills to pay the bills, Jagwar Ma will be giving you the opportunity to see and hear what all the hype is about this coming Saturday, 4 August at the Standard Hotel in Surry Hills and will be ably supported by the enigmatic, shape-shifting Guerre and irrepressible cosmic DJ Angelo Cruzman.
