IT AINT SAINT LAURENT WITHOUT YVES
In case you missed it, that cheeky little up-start Slimane has become the new head designer for one of the greatest French fashion houses, Yves Saint Laurent. Personally, we think it looks like something that’s displayed in the windows of Forever 21 and Supre but hey, who are we to comment.
But what we WILL comment on is the preview for the new film based upon that wonderful man’s life. Written by Jacques Fieschi and directed by Jalil Lespert, Yves Saint Laurent is set in 1958. For anyone not familiar with the Yves story, this is the period straight after the death of Dior and the announcement of Yves as head designer at the House. It’s considered by many that the Spring collection of that year, designed by Yves, was what saved the French design house from financial ruin.
From the looks of the preview, the film not only focuses on the meteoric rise of Yves within the French fashion industry (and subsequent fall in that very same year due to the following collections being savaged by the press) but also the personal relationships that suffered during that period. The film, which is due out in 2014, has even been endorsed by the late designer’s long term partner, Pierre Bergé, who was also co-founder to the eponymous fashion house (did he have a say in the announcement of Hedi? We’d like to have a word to him if he did).
Yves Saint Laurent is set for a world release in 2014 but you can view the decadently sensual trailer here.
