spaQIf you were as glued to your television sets as we were last year, you may have become as equally obsessed with the third instalment of the Australian edition of Project Runway. Whilst he didn’t win the overall competition, top-three contestant Johnny Schembri still stole the show, creating some of the more memorable and well-thought designs that were worn throughout the season. It’s hard to believe that in the space of three years, Johnny has gone from selling his creations at the infamous Fringe Markets in Paddington to having his own show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Nicely played, Sir.
Johnny has obviously been hard at work building the By Johnny empire. His latest collection is now out and available to get your mitts on at the new-look, new location Capital L store in Paddington.
The 2012/2013 collection includes some seriously sweet candy-stripes and hand-drawn florals on a mix of pencil skirts and almost tomboyish singlets. The effect is a range of clothing that is not only cohesive, well-tailored and flattering but also incredibly wearable and sexy. Mint-green, creams and fluorescent pinks juxtapose with lilacs, blacks and whites and it’s a testament to Johnny’s editing skills and ability to step back that this entire palette not only works seamlessly together but never once comes across as too much.
To have a look at this brilliant Summer 2012/2013 collection or to buy online, head to Johnny’s website here.
Capital L is located at 100 Oxford Street, Paddington, 2021.
