This is looking to be a tops month when it comes to live music. We’ve got that many highlighted events on our calendars that the thought of staying home one night is actually a novelty. But – this is the whole reason people come to Sydney, right?
And it is with pleasure that we confirm that so is the wonderful Beth Orton.
Beth Orton is a BRIT Award–winning English singer-songwriter, known for her ‘folktronica’ sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica. She was initially recognised for her collaborations with William Orbit and the Chemical Brothers in the mid 1990s. She set a precedent for the trend of soft vocals that drifted out of the speakers of many a car during summer camping holidays and Sunday afternoon beers in a friend’s backyard.
This coming May 14th, Beth Orton will be touring Australia and will perform at St Stephen’s Uniting Church on Macquarie Street. This will include some of her older sets but will focus on the music from her latest album, Sugaring Season, which was released in 2012.
At first we thought the setting was rather odd, but then came round to the idea that one of the heavenliest voices today is perfectly suited to one of the oldest churches in Sydney.
