Disclaimer – the author is a total Björk fanatic. And by fanatic we mean that the author (hey that’s me!) owns everything from the coffee table book dedicated to the Icelandic unicorn from Mars to her limited edition vinyl releases of remixes and covers (yet doesn’t actually own a record player). So the following entry may be a little…over the top.
Like a ray from heaven in a world of bleakness, we have been given a divine-sent grace. On Saturday, September 13 at the City Recital Hall on Angel Place, Australia’s ARIA Award-winning a cappella quartet The Idea of North will join forces with the Sydney Chamber Choir to explore the music of Icelandic artiste and siren, Bjørk. Drawing upon the rich vein of folk and a cappella singing, the collaboration will perform a series of specially commissioned arrangements from the music of Bjørk… as well as music from other Icelandic artists which I am sure are just as good but you know what, they’re not Björk so who cares.
Sorry. We do care.
On the night you will be able to hear rearrangements of some of the greatest current bands (who all come from Iceland, so maybe there is something to be said for volcanic islands as a source of creative genius) including Sigur Ros. There will also be a nod to their Scandinavian neighbours, with songs from Knut Nystedt, Jan Sandström and of course, ABBA.
Tickets to the event are limited and there is a chance the author will attempt to book every seat and pretend that the night is a one of special performance just for him. So don’t let him be a dick and get in early to get your seats now.
The Idea of the North and Sydney Chamber Choir will perform Going Björk at the City Recital Hall on Saturday, September 13.
