Smell that? That’s the scent of the intelligentsia arriving in town for the annual meeting of minds and wit – the Sydney Writers’ Festival. Well, maybe not yet because it’s next month, 19-25 May, but we’re telling you now because shit sells out quick.
Hot on the heels of a kale-and-coconut-water-fuelled Fashion Week, The Sydney Writers’ Festival is a soothing dose of grey matter that reminds us that there are indeed things out their bigger and more important than the colour of a kitten heel and which model was dropped off the books for always being late (not that this is not important, but let’s put it in perspective). One of the most fascinating events of the Sydney social calendar, the Sydney Writers’ Festival is filled with conversations and performances that explore the literary arts, a field that has expanded to include your iPad, mobile phones and there are even several poetry slams and spoken word nights.
This year brings a truly eclectic mix of personalities to the forum, ranging from Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan; Pulitzer Prize winner, Alice Walker; and our very own Chistos Tsiolkas, award winning author of The Slap and Loaded.
As we mentioned, tickets to events sell out fast so we recommend booking now or forever holding your peace about missing out.
The Sydney Writers’ Festival will be held across Sydney and the Blue Mountains from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 May.
