Former U.S. First Lady and style legend, Jackie Kennedy, was allegedly a huge fan of Finnish fashion and homewares label, Marimekko. They were famous for their bold prints and incredibly bright colours even back in 1951, when the brand first launched. Why are we talking about them? Because they are finally opening their first flagship store in Sydney!
Location being everything, the store will sit adjacent to the flagship Apple store and the new Louis Vuitton store in the Sydney CBD (if retail could have a three-way, this would be one to film). What we’re most impressed with is the expansive and completely over the top eight metre high ceilings inside the shop space that flood the showroom with natural light – complete indulgence and we love it already. The space was designed by Marimekko’s store design team and Tokyo-based architecture firm IMA.
The store will also stock the full range of products made by the Marimekko brand – furnishing fabrics and tableware to clothing, bags and canvases.
The Marimekko flagship store is found at 66 King Street, Sydney.
