Come and relive butterfly hairclips, daisy-inspired accessories and chokers at The Basement in Circular Quay this coming Friday, May 30 when our favourite Australian indie-pop group from the 90s, Frente, take to the stage to remind us how awesome they are.
Known for iconic hits such as Accidentally Kelly Street and their cover of New Order’s Bizarre Love Triangle (which was their international break-out hit), the Melbourne band have gone through a veritable season of changes and growth. After a moderate overseas success (and a cult following still operating here in Aus.) the band split up in 1997 and went their separate ways before lead singer Angie Hart and Simon Austin joined forces again in 2003 while working in the US. Since then, the duo have enjoyed a minor renaissance, including a several concerts in the US and a small tour along Australia’s East coast and the even the release of an EP, Try To Think Less.
This latest tour is nine-stop show across Australia that celebrates the 21st anniversary of their hit album, Marvin the Album (yes, read that again – 21 years…we are that old) and you can bet that we’ll be front and centre, hearts bursting with nostalgia and wearing some seriously questionable footwear. We’ve always thought Frente were one of those bands that should have gone mega (totally ahead of their time – hipsters, where were you when they needed you!) but are secretly glad they didn’t because it kept them more ours, whatever that means.
Frente will perform at The Basement in Circular Quay on Friday, May 30.
