So, as birds go, pigeons are probably not on anyone’s list as ‘favourite’ or ‘cutest’. But, as bands go, they are definitely right up there as one of our top rotations of the month. It doesn’t hurt that they are the masterminds behind a certain viral Daft Punk medley that has been doing the rounds on YouTube lately either.
Originally hailing from Brisbane, Pigeon are a welcome addition to the electro-pop scene in Australia and have already been gracing top billing at events such as Splendour In The Grass, Parklife and Peats Ridge Festival.
To celebrate the launch of the latest single, Curtain Call, the boys from Pigeon will be flying the nest and heading to where the heat is for the end of winter to perform at the Union Jack in Cairns this coming August 21. This will be a worthwhile little road trip to our sister city in the north to catch some of the freshest tunes in the Australian music scene today. A slightly darker offering than their earlier brand of organic electro, Curtain Callcomes with a European flavour, inspired by the likes of Miike Snow and Royksopp. With the organic feel of raw piano combined with electronic bass, the single is “reminiscent of some kind of traditional tale involving a castle and a princess but set in space,” says Pigeon.
Entry to see Pigeon live at the Union Jack Hotel is free so we recommend getting in there before it starts and snatching up a good spot.
