So we may be a little early in getting out our Christmas gift ideas for 2013 but stuff it – we know what we want and we want you to get it. For us. And sitting at the near top of that list (right behind the talking robot, flying skateboards and original set of Harry Potter wands as seen in the Harry Potter film series) are the beautiful dinner plates and china made by London-based designer, Yvonne Ellen.
Handcrafted pieces of ‘up-cycled’ china, Yvonne Ellen’s work is a mixture of art, craft and nifty design. Yvonne’s strong passion for beautiful vintage crockery alongside a love of quirky, decorative illustration combines to create a unique range of homewares that double as artistic pieces – and that is the best part, in our minds. When you’re not using them to eat a bunch of delicious cakes and sandwiches off, you can easily mount them on your wall as distinct vintage artworks of the style you would expect to find in an eccentric Monarchists house in the remote hills of England. Which is no surprise considering that all of Yvonne’s work is carefully and lovingly handmade in Britain.
And if you’re worried about someone getting the same plate as you, never fear, as each piece is entirely original and no two designs are alike. Which does make it interesting when you try to buy a set. We guess you’re just going to have to let go of that OCD compulsion and loosen up a little!
