Drawing is one of those under-appreciated abilities that many of us here at QT wishes we had. It would make nights playing Pictionary of Death that much more easier to deal. But, alas, we are mere mortals who must instead marvel at the skills of others such as those showing at ‘Drawing Out’ Dobell Australia Drawing Biennial 2014 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Following the acclaimed Dobell Prize for Drawing, Drawing Out is the first in a series of curated exhibitions on contemporary Australian drawing planned to be held every two years. It features Tom Carment, Joe Furlonger, Ross Laurie, Ivy Pareroultja, Ana Pollak, Peter Sharp, Mary Tonkin, John R Walker, Gosia Wlodarczak and John Wolseley.
The exhibition will showcase a wide-ranging scale of works that move from intimate sketchbook drawings to large-scale panoramas and include an opening-week performance in which Wlodarczak will draw directly onto a window in the Gallery, overlooking the landscape of Woolloomooloo outside, in a work that will be erased at the end of the exhibition.
Drawing Out is now showing at the Art Gallery of New South Wales until January 26, 2015.
