We cringed a little when someone told us that leather cuffs were coming back in (did anyone else have get flashbacks of 2003 when they read that?) but then we saw the work of New Zealand label, My Deer Fox, and we realised it might not be so bad.
Based, as we said, in the Land of the Long White Cloud, My Deer Fox is a humble little label designed by the delightful Lisa Li who focuses on creating hand-made leather goods. These range from purses, bags, and clutches all the way to the other end of the accessory train to cuffs, wristlets, and belts. Once spotted, their designs are instantly recognisable with their signature knuckle-duster weave is found on most of their creations.
Excitingly, the brand has also been known to branch out to include avant garde, laser cut leather pieces that operate as detachable garments. One of their most memorable collections involved a range of leather pieces that were in actuality a series of individual pieces of leather placed together that can be removed, one by one, to create a new look.
The current range of bags and purses are a beautiful mix of architectural and geometric design that plays between the softer, feminine shape of the bag and a more masculine use line and structure.
