As far as comedians go, Australia has had a fairly checkered history. Shows such as Hey Hey, It’s Saturday and the Comedy Company and their rather obtuse use of racism, sexism and homophobia; Rodney Rude’s utter gutter mouth; and whatever the hell shows like Fat Pizza and Housos was. But sometimes there is a comedy show that not only slays the house with genuine humour but does so without offending anybody. And so it is with the hilarious pair that are better known as the Umbilical Brothers.
Performing at the Opera House this coming December 11, the Umbilical Brothers have made a name for themselves for being not only physically elastic but incredibly adept at recreating almost every single sound within the known universe. We may be exaggerating. But we may not be.
Since they first started out way back in 1988, Shane Dundas and David Collins have been seen on everything from the Late Show with Jay Leno, David Letterman, Broadway and locally on Good News Week. They are regulars at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and even had their own children’s show for a while. It’s good clean fun that will make you go all soft until you realised that you’ve pissed your pants from laughing.
