CONGRATULATIONS TIM WATSON

Just in case you missed it, Perth-based Tim Watson is the new so-hot-right-now Australian designer, with tonnes of blogs and fashion fiends all frothing at the mouth over his work, and for good reason too.

The Curtin University graduate designer has just been awarded the Australians in New York Fashion Foundation scholarship, which, as the name suggests, will see Tim shipping off to the Big Apple to develop his brand during a six-month internship.

Tim’s big break comes after the release of his A/W2013 luxe sports range, which was built around a trans-seasonal jacket that was designed as a way of combating the over-consumerist approach to fashion.

The collection focuses on what can only be described as exaggerated, billowing shapes that emphasise the male form. The mixture of fluoro and reflective material verges on being a little roadwork uniform but the use of hi-tech fabrics keeps it decidedly futuristic. Despite being released as an A/W collection, the range can be worn all year round, being both heat and cold resistant.

At this stage, Tim’s collection is yet to be available to buy in store or online. But be warned, you can expect big things from Watson by the end of 2013 so you can thank us by sending a few ‘thanks for the heads up’ gifts when they get released.
