BRKICH

By Benjamen Judd

We came across the Melbourne-based label, Brkich, whilst buying some pre-Christmas presents for family at our favourite Sydney store, Follow.

What caught our eye were the amazing hand-screened prints that screamed sunshine fun and weekends. To balance it all out and make sure that it wasn’t too flighty, the tops are made from cottons and linens, giving them a structure missing in materials like jersey and silk, your normal go to materials for spring tops.

But who is Brkich? First up, it’s pronounced ‘bur-kitch’ and Brkich is Belinda Crossley, who grew up in an itty-bitty town near rural Gippsland. One of favourite bits of personal history is the fact Belinda grew up in a converted butter factory – converted as in her mother turned it into an art gallery for local artists.

After studying at RMIT, majoring in Textiles and Designs, Belinda started her label Brkich. She still works from her own studio which is her home and recently won the ‘Debut – Best Apparel’ award.

The latest collection, Bright Smoke, is just as we mentioned – bright and light and filled with colour. The tops are contrasted with simple skirts and dresses in lilac and muted browns. Perfect for weekend fun-times!

For more information, and to buy her collection online, head to the Brkich website here.

You could also go to the Follow Store in Surry Hills and try all the good things on there! Follow is located at 380 Cleveland Street, Surry Hills.
