Bright Neon Lights

Neo-new wave, late 80’s surf and electro rock is the underlying feel you get when you look at the latest collection from Sydney-based designer, Emma Mulholland.

Emma is a relative new-comer on the Sydney fashion scene but this has not stopped her from fast becoming a must have for the wardrobe. After graduating from Ultimo TAFE, Emma was THE breakout star from the Innovators show at the 2011 RAFW which was immediately followed up by the now cult-status Spring/Summer collection, Queen Aurelia. Her current collection, ‘Tropical Rebel’, takes her signature surf and skate culture themes, dips them in acid and adds some electric shock therapy. The result is a series of incandescent shark prints that come in sleeveless dresses, over-long tees and jumpers that, after a while, begin to take you on a visual psychedelic trip.

For her latest collection, ‘As Bad as I Guana Be’, Emma has taken inspiration from her latest spirit animal, the iguana. The forthcoming 2012/2013 Spring Summer collection will see bomber jackets, bustiers, sequined dresses and even backpacks embellished that are all influenced by the blindingly beautiful and colourful little reptile. To say it’s pretty awesome doesn’t even do it justice.

To make it even a little more cooler, Emma has released a short film that showcases the latest collection. Produced by Sydney photographer, Byron Spencer, and directed by Alex Goddard, this is one of the coolest sneak-peaks at a new collection that we have seen in a long time.

To watch the As Bad as I Guana Be, you can see it on Vimeo here.
