BOB, SWEAT & TEARS

Feb 6, 2014  ·  2 min read

Sydney is well and truly a rainbow of entertainment and celebrations as part of the annual month of Mardi Gras (otherwise known as February). We’ll try and keep you in the fruit-loop as much as possible when it comes to events and things to see and we’ll start with the irrepressible Bob Downe who is taking the stage at the Sydney Theatre in Millers Point this coming Wednesday and Thursday, February 26 and 27 to perform his new show – Bob, Sweat & Tears.

An icon in multiple camps (puns are great), Bob Downe has been providing laughs to Australian audiences for more than twenty years. This year proves to be a collection of some of his best and bestest moments altogether in one fantastic kitsch night.

In a world premiere, Bob returns from his summer of love in Frisco to front a live band led by John Thorn, with a slew of special surprise guests.

“There are so many things I haven’t told you. There are so many things I haven’t told Mum!”, said Downe.

The man behind the polyester, Mark Trevorrow, has been performing under the moniker ‘Bob Downe’ – the safari-suit-wearing lounge singer with dazzling teeth, and host of the fictional regional daytime TV show, Good Morning Murwillumbah – for 25 years.

Mark’s many and varied talents include authoring a book (All Bob Downe! 1998); recording comedy albums (Greatest Hits 1996; Jazzy 1997; Huge Hits 2001); hosting live television broadcasts (Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras); presenting an eponymous comedy chat series (The Bob Downe Show, Foxtel/TV1); acting (Quad, cameo appearances on Kath and Kim) and cabaret performance.

His most recent appearance at Sydney Theatre was in 2012 with 20 Golden Greats, which also travelled to Edinburgh Fringe, Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne Comedy Festival and Perth International Comedy Festival.
