We would probably die in a ball of shriveled up dust and despair if we were told we had to live without our smart phones. We live our lives through our Apps – Apps for banking; Apps for communicating; Apps for entertaining and Apps for shopping. The only thing really missing was an App that made us pasta every night for dinner and knew when to get us some more ice-cream (hint hint software engineers of the world). But thankfully, you can at least get an App to park your bum on. True story.
Dutch designer, Richard Hutten, has created the App Sofa for Artifort. The cube-like sofa in both one and two person options has rounded corners and was designed to resemble your standard App icon found on your smart phone.
The sofas have a wooden core and internal webbing for comfort and support. They also come in a range of colours – you can choose either a solid shade or two-tone option (the latter is more fun, admit it).
Hutten himself is one of the most prestigious designers in the Netherlands at the moment and is a perfect example of the nation’s famous sensitivity to design aesthetics. His collaboration with Artifort has been a way of exploring how art and design interact to create exceptionally crafted, beautiful furniture and design.
