If you have not come across Alexi Freeman before, you can thank us later for bringing him to your attention now. Hello brightly coloured summer nights!
Originally form Hobart and now based in Melbourne, Alexi creates clothing for women that fun without being trite. His collections for women incorporate elements of hand drawn & printed textiles worked into drape and juxtaposed with tailoring. In Alexi’s own words, his design philosophy is to lure fashion into bed with art, catalyse the rise of understated avant-garde and popularise the notion of urban couture, all the while empowering and paying homage to the modern woman.
And after looking at the Summer 2012/13 collection, ‘Palm’, we see exactly what he means by that. Laser cut dresses in fluorescent orange, printed body suits and mesh dresses give the collection a sexier edge and are mixed with batwing gowns, shift dresses and ballet skirts for softer, more daytime looks. Alexi has created a collection that can easily take you from a champagne breakfast, to a harbour lunch, an afternoon at the local polo club and finally wrapping things up in some random VIP lounge at the back of a nightclub that has no name in a street you’ve never heard of.
We like that he has used the colour orange a lot.
