A Step Up

Who knew ladders could be fun?

We got a little over using chairs, telephone books and each others’ shoulders to try and change light bulbs and dust the top of the bookcase. So we decided to hunt around for a nice new ladder that was not only going to look nice but was also completely functional without making us feel like we were going to die every time we climbed up it. But mostly, it just had to look nice.

So we found the Step by Design House Stockholm (leave it to the Swedes to design something functional and amazing all at the same time). Designed by Karl Malmvall (he of the former IKEA fame before becoming a freelance designer in his own right), the Step is a combination of stand-alone furniture (doubles as a fancy looking bookshelf if you like) and working ladder.

Malmvall designed the ladder to become something incorporated into your home and not tucked away in a cupboard. It comes in three options of gloss finish – black, white or red and was also the winner of the Wallpaper 2011 Design Award.

You can buy the Step from Top 3 By Design online from there website here.
