LOUNGE LADIES

Jun 24, 2013  ·  2 min read

By Benjamen Judd

Whoever the idiot was that said women couldn’t be comedians was idiot. A lot of us here in the QT offices grew up listening to the razor wit and scathing humour of the amazing Judith Lucy when she was hosting the Lady’s Lounge with Helen Razor.

Judith Lucy summed up the nineties for us – acerbic, caustic, scathing, yet loveable like a drunk auntie who likes to take her wigs off at dinner. And, with Denise Scott, she will be taking those skills to pay the bills and putting them to the test at the Enmore Theatre at the end of this month.

Two of our funniest are joining forces for an evening of short stories, tall tales and jokes at each other’s expense. In 2012 Judith Lucy and Denise Scott each published their second book – Judith’s Drink, Smoke, Pass Out, and Denise’s The Tour. One sought spiritual enlightenment, one ‘found herself’ on all fours by the roadside. In 2013 they are hitting the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in a book event like no other – reviewing and reliving the process and finally being reunited on stage together.

What sort of night can we expect? Here’s what the ladies themselves had to say:

Denise Scott on Judith Lucy: “When it comes to Australia’s literary giants, it’s pretty obvious the three names are Winton, Carey and Lucy. I wouldn’t want to work with anyone else.”

Judith Lucy on Denise Scott: “Scott is the Ginsberg to my Kerouac.”

Dying.

The first show has already sold out so you should be jumping on that website ASAP to make sure you don’t miss out on the second one. To get your tickets to Judith Lucy and Denise Scott, head the Enmore Theatre’s website.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Ginsberg/Kerouac bit is so high brow I don’t get it. So if you don’t either, get googling.  Sas xx
