With the summer in full swing, there is nothing better than heading to your local market on weekend morning, trawling around the fresh produce, eyeing off some artwork from a local talent and enjoying a brew from an artisan coffee farmer. There may well be other ways to spend your time, but this is up there for sure. When it comes to Canberra, there are too many markets to poke a stick at, so to help you out, from me to you, here are some highlights of the Canberra market scene:
Old Bus Depot Markets
Handcrafted goods and fine coffee – it’s Sunday thing, right? As you trawl through the multi-award winning market space, it will the smells and sounds that really take you away. The Bus Depot loves to change things up a little bit themed days, so to kick 2017 off, the team will be hosting a favourite with Portobello Road – think retro pieces of luggage and those hard to find one of kind items that you never knew you needed.
Old Bus Depot Markets are open every Sunday from January 8, 10am – 4pmhttps://www.instagram.com/p/BN-ns07Dvjs/?taken-by=oldbusdepotmarkets
Hartly Hall Markets
Located about 10 clicks out of Canberra, the Hartly Hall Markets have that unique rural vibe about them. On top of all the trinkets and baked goods, the fresh produce can help stock your cupboard for the week ahead. Entry is a gold coin donation which goes to the Hartley Lifecare Disability service. Fun fact: the markets started back in 1987 and even today, almost 30 years later, there are still original stall holders putting up a pergola.
The Hartley Hall markets are on the first Sunday of every month, 10am to 3pm.
