Art-wise, there is plenty going on in Canberra, you just need to know where to look. However, you’ve got a lot on, you’ve barely got enough time to read this, so we’ve done the looking for you and found three must-see exhibitions in Canberra that you can visit in the one day.
You, my lazy/culture hungry friend, are most welcome.
Rodel Tapaya
Rodel Tapaya is a Filipino painter known for his busy, collage-style works. Best described by the National Gallery of Australia, “he appropriates myth, folktale and contemporary reality to comment on the Philippines’ past, present and future.” Tapaya’s latest exhibition is an epic commission for the NGA. The mega-piece intensely delivers three interwoven narratives across a ten-metre triptych.Rodel Tapaya: New art from the Philippines will run from March 18 – August 20

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017
Celebrating Australia’s top portrait snaps by professional and amateurs alike, the prestigious National Photographic Portrait Prize will this year be awarded for the 10th time. 49 finalists have been chosen from the almost 3000 entries, with $25,000 being given to first prize, as well as gongs for Highly Commended, Art Handlers’ Award and the ever-popular People’s Choice. The National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017 will run from April to June
Frank Stella
Frank Stella is a famous American artist and Kenneth Tyler is a famous American printer and both were major players in the development of the American printmaking scene. As the name suggests, this exhibition is a personal collection owned by Tyler, of Stella’s works. The New Yorker’s work is sometimes abstract, often minimal and attracts both artists and designers.Frank Stella: The Kenneth Tyler Print Collection will run until July, 2017
