The Making of Midnight Oil

It’s time to get those feet tapping as you allow the Power and Passion of Midnight Oil to come alive inside of you. Are you a diehard fan of Peter Garrett and his robot-reciting-shakespeare spasmodic “dancing”? Well then this one’s for you.

From March 10 – May 14, the Tuggeranong Arts Centre will be showcasing the nationally acclaimed Making of Midnight Oil exhibition. After widely popular seasons in Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne, this showcase is a great opportunity for locals and wider region Midnight Oil fans to experience a fresh insight into these Aussie legends.

The exhibition shows the story of the band, their oily adventures, achievements and even rare instruments and costumes. The history of the band spans over a 40-year period, so there is a fair share of band memorabilia such as stage props, musical instruments, film footage, and artwork to gawk at.

Across the eight-week exhibition, there will not only be the opportunity to learn about to the history of this iconic Australian band, but also curator tour talks, ticketed themed concerts, a multimedia experimental performance, as well as a singer and songwriters workshop.

The curator walk and talk with past band members Ross Heathcote, Rob Hirst and Jim Moginie will occur only on Friday 11 March – so bookings are essential. For those of you that are more into tap-tapping those feet and singing along to Beds are Burning and King of the Mountain, then boogie on along to the multimedia experimental performance by Jim Moginie (guitar/keyboards in Midnight Oil), of the ticketed concert with the Backsliders featuring Rob Hirst, Dom Turner and a guest harp player.
